Chapter 3: Chapter 3 I’ve Been Sprayed Numerous Times
In my memory, the original owner didn’t seem so poor that they couldn’t afford
food, so why did they look as skinny as a refugee fleeing disaster? 1
Just a bit more black ash on the face, and they’d definitely look more like a refugee
than those extras playing them in my memory!
After using the bathroom and returning to the hospital bed, Lu Zhengzheng
couldn’t help but ask again, “Sister Xixi, have you really decided to participate in
the survival reality show?”
Her words were filled with doubt and lack of confidence in her.
If it were before seeing the current state of her body in the mirror, Jiang Lingxi
would have nodded without hesitation.
But now, she nodded internally with tears: “Since I’ve agreed, naturally, I have to
see it through.”
The worst-case scenario is to train hard for physical strength before going on the
show. Since it’s about survival and there’s some danger involved, she can’t be the
one dragging everyone down; she wouldn’t allow it!
“It’s not like you haven’t…”
Stood up the production crew before.
Facing Jiang Lingxi’s gaze, Lu Zhengzheng silently swallowed the words she
hadn’t finished saying.
Now, after escaping death, Sister Xixi felt even more intimidating.
Previously, the fear was about accidentally saying something unpleasant and
upsetting Sister Xixi; now, it’s an inexplicable fear of questioning any decision
Sister Xixi makes.
Although the little girl didn’t continue, Jiang Lingxi could guess what she left
unsaid just by her expression.
Truly looking back and analyzing it piece by piece, she could die of anger at
herself.
Jiang Lingxi decisively adjusted her mindset.
“Sister Xixi,” seeing that participating in the survival reality show was a foregone
conclusion, Lu Zhengzheng decisively offered her phone, “these are survival
reality shows I’ve watched from abroad. Maybe they could be helpful to you.”
Jiang Lingxi looked at the phone handed to her. In the original owner’s memory,
everyone had one, and its functionalities were like magic to her.
But the original one’s phone wasn’t as lucky, falling to the bottom of the cliff and
no one would risk retrieving it for a phone.
As Jiang Lingxi was about to take it, Lu Zhengzheng’s hand abruptly pulled back.
Then both of them looked up simultaneously at Tong Yue, who pushed the door
open and came in.
Tong Yue: “What are you two sneaking around for this time?”
As she approached, she noticed the phone in Lu Zhengzheng’s hand that hadn’t
been hidden away. Her face turned serious, “Lu Zhengzheng, didn’t I say no
letting little Xixi look at screens while recovering?”
Then realizing her tone was a bit harsh, she quickly added, “It’s not just bad for
the eyes; with so many trolls online these days, it would affect Xixi’s mood if she
saw it.”
“Zhengzheng wanted to show me foreign survival reality shows, saying they
might help me for the upcoming show.” Jiang Lingxi spoke with her gaze slightly
downcast, her tone calm, causing the other two in the room to instinctively listen
more intently, “It’s normal for there to be trolls attacking me online. After all, my
past actions were indeed wrong.”
Not just the original owner, she herself was quite experienced with being trolled.
Back when she ascended by imprisoning her brother, insisted on building the
Grand Palace against ministerial objection, and determined a plan that almost
wiped out her people… On reflection, it was abnormal not to get criticized a few
times annually.
Sometimes, she would indeed accept criticism for her thoughtlessness and reflect
on her actions.
But there were things she’d continue doing regardless of being criticized if she
thought she wasn’t wrong.
This time, the original owner’s actions were just wrong, no denying it.
Given her highly publicized identity, the absence of criticism would feel
abnormal.
The room fell silent for a few more seconds.
There was some relief that this girl, muddling through the industry for several
years, was finally clearer-headed after this incident.
Yet there was also regret, that if she had been this clear-minded earlier, the
person who debuted last year under the name ‘Little Jiang Lingxi’ wouldn’t have
become a hit!
After all was said and done, her sentiments concluded in one sentence: “Finally,
you’ve come to your senses.”
She then lightly shook the phone in her hand and laughed, “I just called Mr. Shao,
saying you’ve agreed to join the first episode of ‘Survival.’ His first reaction was
disbelief, almost asking if I forced it on you.”
“You agreed so readily, saving some face with Mr. Shao. He said once you’re back
from filming ‘Travel,’ he’ll assign a physical coach for intensive training, so even
if you lose on the show, it won’t be too embarrassing.”
Jiang Lingxi: “…Thank him for me!”
“Sure, I’ll pass it on.”
Jiang Lingxi: “…”
The harmonious atmosphere in the room was interrupted by a nurse pushing in a
cart, “Room 3, patient Jiang Lingxi, it’s time for the IV.”
Watching the small, sharp needle being pushed into the vein on her hand by a
similarly clad nurse and observing the liquid from the drip entering her body,
Jiang Lingxi remained expressionless, but internally, she marveled a bit once
more.
If only her younger sister were born in such an era…
In the middle of her thought, Jiang Lingxi shook her head self-mockingly.
What kind of “if” is that!
“Sister Xixi,” having received Tong Yue’s approval, Lu Zhengzheng placed the
phone on the little table by the bed, “Look, here are some foreign survival reality
shows, and ours should be rather similar.”
Jiang Lingxi drew her gaze from her bandaged hand to the phone screen.
Helicopters would take people into the jungle, with each person having only a
limited supply of resources. They could only rely on these resources and their
abilities to survive for a week in the jungle, counting it as success.
Seeing this, it seemed like the only real challenges were eating and sleeping
problems.
Back then, she led a scout team deep into the southwest, surviving for nearly a
month in a hot, humid jungle full of miasma, facing poisonous insects and
snakes, where even the food could poison them if carelessly handled. It was far more challenging than anything in this show.
“Sister Xixi, do you want to keep watching?”
“No,” thinking that the rest would likely be similar, Jiang Lingxi lost interest, “I’m
feeling a bit tired, want to sleep for a while.”
“Probably a side effect of the medication, then Sister Xixi, rest well.”
Lu Zhengzheng swiftly packed away the little table, adjusted the head of the bed
flat,
making sure she was lying comfortably before heading off to the bathroom
herself. Upon returning, she found the person on the bed already asleep.
Contrary to her expectations, there was no crying tantrum after waking, no
hoarse curses directed at the production crew, nor any unreasonable demands
made.
Lu Zhengzheng looked at the serene and composed sleeping face in front of
her, silently deleting the yet-to-be-sent resignation letter from her email.
She wished that Sister Xixi would always be like this in the future!
After all, getting to be around such a beauty every day, who would want to leave, if
not for her temper being unbearable!
